Clinical Pilates

What is Pilates?
Pilates was originally developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s as a system of exercise which aims to increase strength of the core abdominal and back muscles. Originally for dancers, traditional Pilates were very demanding and therefore were not suitable for everyone, for example those with injuries. Therefore, The Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute (APPI) have modified these exercises and renamed them rehabilitation Pilates.

What's different about APPI Rehabilitation Pilates?
The APPI programme is the only Pilates programme in the world that is fully designed, taught and developed by physiotherpists. Every Pilates based exercise has been analysed on its effectiveness for clients that have sustained injuries. Modifications were made and a unique exercise-level approach developed to allow a client to be trained effectively from an injured state to a fully fit, functional and effiecient state. Our method is based on degree level understanding of movement, anatomy and physiology.

How do we run the classes at Physiologic?
Our Physiotherapy led classes are taught by chartered physiotherapists who have trained with the APPI. Our groups are no larger than six people per class so each person gets closely monitored and individually progressed. Contact us for further details.
